Vol. 353 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Galway Schools.

651.

asked the Minister for Education if she has approved the application for an additional classroom at Boleybeg national school, Barna, County Galway.

My Department has no application from the authorities of Boleybeg national school, Barna, County Galway, for assistance in the provision of an additional classroom currently under consideration.

652.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that part of the ceiling recently collapsed at Clonbur national school, County Galway; and in view of the danger to the lives of the teachers and pupils if she will arrange to have classes transferred to the new community centre until such time as the new national school building is constructed.

My Department has received no formal complaint from the school authorities regarding the collapse of part of the ceiling in the school in question. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked as a matter of urgency to investigate what works may be necessary to secure the roof and ceilings of the existing school pending the erection of a new school, which my Department has approved. My Department will communicate with the school authorities as soon as the commissioners' report comes to hand. The question of transferring classes is one for consideration by the school's board of management in the first instance. If the commissioners recommend that the school building be vacated, the question of alternative temporary accommodation will be discussed with the school authorities.
