Vol. 353 No. 6

Written Answers. - Pension Appeal.

566.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in deciding on the pension appeal on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Louth as submitted by Drogheda Corporation on his behalf on 3 January 1984; the result of the appeal; the amount of extra pension payment due; the date of payment of any arrears due; the amount of arrears due; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The person the subject of the question appealed on two grounds against the decision of the local authority in relation to his superannuation award. I have allowed the appeal in respect of one of these which concerned a weekend allowance and upheld the decision of the local authority in respect of the other which concerned his claim that his tenancy of a local authority house was a pensionable emolument. The amount of the increased pension and arrears of pension due following the determination of the appeal and the date of payment thereof are matters for the local authority.

The examination of this case necessitated prolonged correspondence with the local authority before the appeal could be determined.
