asked the Minister for Finance the reason the inspector of taxes has not authorised a tax refund from the Limerick Office in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Offaly which is outstanding for a long time.
Written Answers. - Tax Refund.
584.
I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector has now completed a review of the taxpayer's liability for the year 1983-84. An overpayment arose and a cheque in settlement has been issued to the taxpayer. The delay in carrying out the review was caused by the failure on the part of the Revenue Commissioners to seek adequate and full information at an early stage in their inquiries. That omission then led regrettably to the delay in making the repayment.
