Vol. 353 No. 6

Written Answers. - Orthopaedic Operations.

596.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the long delays of three years or more involved in obtaining essential orthopaedic operations at a hospital (details supplied) in Dublin; and if he can take any action to improve this situation.

I am aware that there are delays involved for certain orthopaedic operations at the hospital referred to by the Deputy. The average waiting period for joint replacement operations at this hospital is one and a half years. I have indicated to the hospital that I am prepared to make capital resources available for the provision of additional operating theatre facilities there which when completed will help to alleviate the situation.
