Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

611.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if the IDA has obtained industry for vacant factory buildings in Roscommon town.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authory that during the past 12 months three replacement projects were obtained for factories which closed in Roscommon town. These projects are OK Irish Gloves Ltd., Leaf Ltd., and Promoco Ltd. The IDA is continuing to promote the 28,000 sq. ft. private financed advance factory, its own 3,000 sq. ft. small industry units and 19 acres of land in Roscommon town for further industrial development.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if in view of the serious unemployment position in the ployment position in the Rathmore/ Gneeveguilla area of County Kerry, he will state the proposals the IDA and his Department have for the provision of a suitable industry in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority is making every effort to promote industrial development in the Rathmore/Gneeveguilla area of County Kerry.

The Rathmore/Gneeveguilla area is situated in the catchment areas of Killarney, County Kerry and Millstreet, County Cork and as such will stand to benefit from the employment opportunities created in these towns. In Killarney, County Kerry, and in Millstreet, County Cork, companies such as Waycom Holdings, Molex and Apple Computers have provided additional employment opportunities during the past year.

In Killarney the IDA has two 26,000 sq. ft. advance factories, a small industry unit of 3,000 sq. ft. and a 13.5 acre site available for further industrial development.
