Vol. 354 No. 1

Written Answers. - National School Textbooks.

721.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the required textbooks for primary school children are changing so often; if she will agree that this is causing general disquiet; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The rules for national schools state that readers and textbooks, when selected by the school authorities, should be changed only to the extent that is absolutely necessary. Where changes do occur, these are primarily to enable updated and improved texts to be introduced. School authorities are reminded regularly of the need to ensure that textbooks are not changed more often than is necessary.
