Vol. 354 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowances.

649.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a disabled person's maintenance allowance has not yet been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary as this application was sent to the health board seven weeks ago; and when a decision will be made.

An application for a disabled person's maintenance allowance from the person in question was only received by the South-Eastern Health Board on 22 October 1984. A means test has been carried out and the board are at present awaiting a medical report on the applicant. It is expected that a decision on this case will be made shortly.

650.

asked the Minister for Health the number of people in south Tipperary receiving a disabled person's maintenance allowance; the number of applications for a disabled person's maintenance allowance at present being processed for south Tipperary; the average length of time it takes to process these applications and the reason there is such an undue delay in processing them.

The number of people in south Tipperary receiving a disabled persons maintenance allowance is 590. The number of applications for a DPMA at present being processed for south Tipperary is 32. The average length of time taken to process these applications is six weeks. I regard this as a reasonable period having regard to the fact that applicants must undergo a medical examination and have their means assessed.
