Vol. 354 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

721.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an invalidity pension has not yet been granted to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary as he suffers from Hodgkins disease and Crohns disease; and when this invalidity pension will be granted.

The person concerned has been in receipt of disability benefit since 25 October 1982. In connection with his claim for invalidity pension arrangements were made to have him examined by a medical referee on 26 November 1984. His entitlement to invalidity pension will be reviewed in the light of the report of this examination.

722.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment benefit was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Longford.

Entitlement to unemployment benefit is subject to the condition that a claimant must be available for and genuinely seeking work. The person concerned claimed unemployment benefit from 1 October 1984 but her claim was disallowed on the grounds that she was not available for employment. She appealed against the disallowance and her case has been referred to an appeals officer for consideration. Her entitlement to unemployment benefit will be determined in the light of the appeals officer's decision.

723.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to pay unemployment benefit or assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that by failing to disclose his means he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limit.

Following a request by the applicant for a re-investigation of his means his case was again referred to the social welfare officer for further inquiries and these inquiries are not yet completed. When they are the matter will be referred to a deciding officer for determination and his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed accordingly.

724.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made on the application of a person (details supplied) in County Clare for unemployment assistance.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that his means derived from the profit from his holding and from capital exceeded the rate payable to him. He appealed against the amount of means assessed against him and an appeals officer on 5 July 1984 also assessed him with means exceeding the statutory limit. He was informed accordingly. The decision of an appeals officer is final in the absence of any new facts or fresh evidence.

725.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made on the application of a person (details supplied) in County Clare for unemployment assistance.

The person concerned has been assessed with means at £3.85 weekly and he is at present being paid unemployment assistance at the rate of £26.10 being the rate appropriate to a single person, £29.95, less means £3.85. His wife has applied for separate payment of the dependant's portion of his weekly unemployment assistance in respect of herself and four qualified children and inquiries are being made in this matter. When these inquiries are completed her application for separate payment will be considered in the light of the outcome of the investigations and the balance of arrears of unemployment assistance will be paid accordingly.
