asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of men and women in each of the principal general service grades who retired at ages of under 60, 61, 62, 63, 64 and 65 in each of the last five years.

The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to have circulated in the Official Report. Considerable work, including recourse to all Departments would be required to give a detailed breakdown of retirements under age 60. Accordingly, the statement is confined to showing the total number of civil servants who retired on ill-health grounds under age 60 in respect of each year. The statement also excludes the staff of the former Department of Posts and Telegraphs.
