On 5 September 1983 I met the NorthEastern Health Board to convey to them my decisions regarding the provision of acute hospital services in the Cavan-Monaghan area. By letter of 8 September 1983 I asked the health board to identify as soon as possible the minimum essential works necessary to enable Monaghan General Hospital to function efficiently. I also said that I would, in this regard, envisage improvement to local storage facilities, the out-patient department, treatment rooms and consideration being given to the use of day beds. I am awaiting proposals from the health board.
