Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

251.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the likelihood of early payment of a contributory widow's pension to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and whether this pension could be back-dated to July 1984.

The person concerned has been awarded a widow's contributory pension at the weekly rate of £55.10 with effect from 20 July 1984, the Friday following her husband's death. This is the maximum rate of pension payable to a widow under 66 years with one qualified child.

A pension order book payable from 12 October 1984 was sent to the designated post office on 5 October 1984 for collection by her and she was notified accordingly.

The arrears of pension for the period from 20 July 1984 to 11 October 1984, less the amount of supplementary welfare allowance paid to her during that period by the Eastern Health Board, have been sent direct to the claimant by payable order.
