Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Land Commission Staff.

349.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the functions and role of the Land Commission staff when the Land Commission will be abolished.

Staff will be engaged for some time after the Land Commission is abolished in winding up its main operations, including disposal of the considerable area of land and turbary in its possession, the collection of annuities and the vesting of title in allottees and tenants. Staff will also be engaged on the continued statutory controls over the purchase of land by non-nationals and over subdivision, as well as on the promotion of schemes of group purchase, leasing, rearrangement and commonage division. In addition, as announced in the national plan, new measures to give effect to the Government's land policy are at present being considered. It is intended that in the near future a number of field staff will be released for duties in connection with the new farm tax, also announced in the plan.
