Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Land Registry Service.

421.

asked the Minister for Justice the progress made towards the streamlining and improving of services being provided by the Land Registry.

Limerich East): Over recent years various measures have been introduced to improve the service provided by the registry. These include: the division of the work into geographical groups; a new system of producing copy maps with copy folio attached; computerisation of folios; improvement of work practices particularly in public offices; introduction of word processing; planned structural alterations in the Chancery Street building; improve staff training, including facilities to acquire legal qualifications; the holding of seminars for solicitors.

Although delays continue to occur in the registry because of public service restrictions on staffing, the overall position has much improved because of the measures taken and in some areas the delays have been reduced to negligible proportions as compared with the position obtaining some years ago.
