asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to the dispute between the Union of Professional and Technical Civil Servants and her Department, a dispute which is causing serious concern with regard to delays in the payment of grants in respect of works to various schools throughout the country; if she could indicate the likelihood of a resolution to this problem in the near future; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The dispute which resulted in the suspension of payments under the terms of my Department's grant scheme for essential improvements to national schools has now been resolved following discussions between the union in question and representatives of my Department and of the Commissioners of Public Works. The union's directive withdrawing their members' co-operation has now been lifted and arrangements for the payment of outstanding grants are in hands.
