Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Farmer Taxation.

130.

asked the Minister for Finance if full-time farmers of less than £40 poor law valuation who were made liable to income tax on farming profits from 6 April 1983 will now be obliged to furnish accounts and income tax returns in view of the farm and land tax proposals in the document Building on Reality, 1985-87.

It is the Government's intention that all farmers remain chargeable to income tax until the end of the 1985-86 income tax year. This means that farmers who entered the income tax system in 1983 may be required to return farm profiles and, where a taxable income appears possible, make income tax returns to the Revenue Commissioners in respect of tax years 1983-84, 1984-85 and 1985-86. After that, arrangements under the new farm tax system, announced in the national plan, will apply.
