Vol. 355 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Enterprise Centre.

1.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the progress made by the IDA in the provision of an enterprise centre for Tallaght, County Dublin.

The Industrial Development Authority announced on 29 November 1984 the establishment of an enterprise centre in Tallaght. The enterprise centre will be located in the former Telectron building, and architects have now been appointed to prepare detailed plans for the centre. Modifications to the building will be undertaken to provide the first seven units as soon as planning permission is received. The remainder of the centre will be developed on a gradual basis.

Can the Minister give any indication of when the enterprise centre in Tallaght will be opened and also of the number of units that will be available at full stream? What is the estimated cost of acquisition and conversion of the centre?

Initially seven units will be provided. The question of the funds was dealt with in the Estimates debate here on 29 November 1984 when there was set out the provision of the funds both for this and for another enterprise centre, one in the East Wall area. I do not seem to have details as to the actual cost of the acquisition but I will get that information for the Deputy.

What is the approximate date of opening?

It should not be very long until the centre opens. Planning permission is awaited and some modification will be required to the building in order that the first seven units may become operational. The modification cannot be undertaken until planning permission has been received. However, I do not expect that that work will take very long. I hope that the space will be available some time towards the middle of this year but I would prefer to obtain a more precise report on the exact timing and then to pass that information to the Deputy.
