Vol. 355 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prisoner's Medical Treatment.

405.

asked the Minister for Justice if a prisoner (details supplied) in Portlaoise Prison has requested medical attention for a serious eye problem; and the response to his request.

, Limerick East): The prisoner is demanding to be brought to Dublin to see an eye specialist of his choice and has declined an examination by the prison medical officer. The medical officer has been in touch with a specialist concerning the case to see whether it is necessary for the prisoner to be brought to Dublin. As the prisoner has embarked on a hunger strike since his request for an eye examination by a particular specialist I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that this creates further difficulties.
