Vol. 355 No. 6

Written Answers. - Radioactive Cargo Regulations.

374.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a Soviet vessel (details supplied) berthed in Dublin port on 19 January 1985, with a radioactive cargo and that no attempt was made by the port authorities or Dublin Cargo Handling to issue any warning to dockers working the ship; and if he will detail the precautions taken when vessels containing radioactive materials visit Dublin port.

The control of shipping in Dublin port, including the bringing within the port of any cargoes which, in the opinion of the harbour authority, are likely to endanger persons or property, is a matter for the Dublin Port and Docks Board acting in accordance with the Harbours Acts. Any question arising in relation to the administration of these Acts is a matter for the Minister for Communications.
