Vol. 356 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Stations.

580.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the detective unit in Ballymun Garda station Dublin 11 is grossly undermanned due to the long term illness of one member and the resignation of another; when the unit will be brought up to full strength; if it is proposed to increase the normal manning level in view of the size of the area; if he is aware that detective units in other stations in district H in Dublin are also undermanned; and when these will be brought up to full strength.

Limerick East): The detailed deployment of Garda manpower is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that they propose to fill the two vacancies for detective garda in the H district, Dublin metropolitan area, including a vacancy for a detective garda at Ballymun station, when the results of recent interviews for appointment of gardaí to the detective branch become available. The only other vacancy in the detective branch in the district, a detective sergeant vacancy at Santry station, will be filled as soon as additional detective sergeants are appointed.

The Garda authorities have no proposals at present to increase the approved strength of the detective branch in the H district but they state that the matter will be kept under review.
