Vol. 356 No. 3

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy (Wexford) Manpower Office.

480.

asked the Minister for Labour the proposals, if any, he has to set up a permanent Manpower office in Enniscorthy, County Wexford.

482.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is satisfied that the present arrangements for National Manpower offices in County Wexford are adequate to service the needs of the large number of unemployed in the county; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 480. and 482 together.

The National Manpower Service provides a full time office at Georges Street in Wexford and part time offices in Enniscorthy, Gorey and New Ross. With regard to Enniscorthy, the NMS at present operates a regular twice monthly part time employment office there and additional attendance by a placement officer is organised when required. The allocation of available National Manpower Services resources (especially staff resources) is kept under regular review to ensure that the best possible service is provided throughout the country.

I should like to assure the Deputy that the resources allocated to County Wexford are the maximum possible within present constraints and bearing in mind the demands being made on the Manpower Service throughout the State. Should the demand for the services of the Manpower Service in Enniscorthy substantially increase then the question of increasing the attendance by the placement officer would be considered at that stage.

I should add that priorities and working methods within the National Manpower Service are currently being reviewed so as to ensure that available resources are used to greatest effect.
