475.

asked the Minister for the Environment if the new fire station (details supplied) in County Meath has been approved by his Department; and the next procedure to be followed before the commencement of building.

I propose to take Questions No. 473 and No. 475 together.

The planning and execution of fire station projects is in the first instance a matter for each fire authority. My Department's involvement relates to the examination of proposals for approval in principle and for the sanctioning of the necessary loan funds for individual projects.

Approval in principle issued to Meath County Council for the provision of a new fire station at Trim in November 1984 and Navan in February 1985. It is now a matter for Meath County Council to proceed with the preparation of detailed plans and invitation of tenders for each project. It is anticipated that subject of course to the reasonableness of the cost in each case loan funds will be available for each project as required.
