Vol. 356 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

458.

asked the Minister for the Environment when an application was made by the trustees of Magheracloone group water scheme for a grant for major improvement works; and when a decision will be made in their case.

Initial inquiries about the availability of assistance by way of second grants towards additional works on this completed scheme were made to my Department in August 1982. My Department hopes to be in a position to write to the group at an early date about the grant elegibility of the proposed works.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of finance that is being made available in County Kilkenny in 1985 for proposed new sewerage and water schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Initial capital allocations in respect of sanitary services are determined by reference to the details contained in returns sent in by local authorities at the beginning of each year. The data necessary for the 1985 allocations have been received and are now being processed in respect of all authorities. Local authorities including Kilkenny County Council will be notified in the near future of their initial allocations in respect of sanitary services work in progress or already fully approved. In the meantime, of course, requests for capital in respect of expenditure on approved works by all local authorities are being met in the normal way as they arise.

asked the Minister for the Environment when approval will issue from his Department to enable the proposed Rockshire sewerage scheme in South Kilkenny to be advertised for tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Contract documents submitted by Kilkenny County Council for the proposed Rockshire sewerage scheme are under consideration in my Department. Approval of the documents must be considered in the context of the overall sanitary services programme and the number of schemes in progress or planning for which adequate finance must be provided. I am not in a position at present to indicate when a decision regarding the contract documents for the Rockshire sewerage scheme may be conveyed to the local authority.
