Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Waterford Road Grants.

458.

asked the Minister for the Environment if there is a request before his Department from Waterford County Council for a refund of money spent on snow clearing and gritting the roads; the amount of money sought; and when it will be paid.

Waterford County Council have notified my Department that they incurred an expenditure of approximately £68,000 in treating conditions of snow and ice on roads in the early part of this year. They have requested a grant to offset this expenditure.

The costs incurred fall to be met from the State grants for road maintenance and from the council's own resources (including the rate support grants). The funds available to me for road grants in the current year have already been fully committed. Accordingly, I am not now in a position to notify an additional grant for the works involved.
