asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the circumstances in which the Yugoslav war criminal Andrija Artukovic (alias Alois Anitch) came to Ireland in July 1947 and resided in Dublin for some period; and if he will specify in particular the address first provided for this man to the Aliens' Office in July 1947.

Limerick East): In the time available since notice of this question was given I have been unable to confirm that there are available in my Department any records relating to the matter, which concerns events alleged to have occurred nearly forty years ago.
Apart from that, I have not had an adequate opportunity to consider whether, if there are in fact any such records, it would be appropriate for me, in the context of a parliamentary question or otherwise, to disclose information about what they do or do not contain, in view of the fact that, prima facie at all events, they would not be concerned with any issues of current administration but only with matters of historical interest to which the rules or practices governing the publication of State papers might have a relevance. I am not aware that it has been the practice to publish material of this kind in the context of parliamentary questions.
I am prepared to communicate with the Deputy when I have considered these issues further or, alternatively, I would invite him to repeat the question in a few weeks time.
