I have no power to issue directives to the relevant statutory bodies. I accept that there is a problem here which needs to be dealt with and as indicated in my written reply to the Deputy's Question No. 443 of 21 February last I have endeavoured to ensure that increases in statutory demands on local authorities are kept within reasonable limits. I will continue in the overall context of local finance to work towards a solution to this problem in so far as it is within my power to do so.
