Vol. 357 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Insurance.

528.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason an allowance for medical insurance is not shown on the current tax free allowance certificate of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, as the taxpayer's total income for the current year is not likely to exceed the appropriate age exemption threshold of £6,600, he is not liable to income tax for 1984-85. Accordingly, the question of tax relief in respect of medical insurance payments does not arise for 1984-85. A certificate granting tax exemption for that year was issued to him in October 1984 and this replaced the normal certificate of tax-free allowances (which would have included a figure in respect of medical insurance relief).
