The amount collected in PRSI for each of the years concerned was as follows: 1979, £349 million; 1980, £455 million; 1981, £561 million; 1982, £771 million; 1983, £948 million and 1984, £1,077 million.
The figure of £349 million given for 1979 includes £121 million collected under the flat-rate insurance scheme which was replaced on 6 April 1979 by the present fully pay-related social insurance system.
