In its price proposals the Commission has not proposed the continuation of the UK variable premium. However, a suggestion to retain the premium in a modified form emerged in a Presidency compromise at the meeting of the Council of Ministers which started last Thursday and ended on Sunday and the matter will be further considered at the Council meeting commencing on 13 May. Ireland has been supporting the retention of the premium.
