Vol. 358 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ballingarry (Tipperary) School Appointment.

761.

asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the appointment of a woodworks and mechanical drawings teacher for Ballingarry convent, Thurles, County Tipperary as at present this teacher is only employed on a part time basis and it is his intention to obtain alternative employment unless he is granted full time employment; if she will take special consideration of the importance of this subject to this co-educational school which caters for approximately 200 girls and 100 boys; and when this appointment will be sanctioned.

The appointment of teachers in secondary schools under the prescribed regulations and within the authorised quota of staff is a matter for the managerial authorities of the schools. In the case of the school in question incremental salary is currently being paid to one teacher in excess of the number warranted by reference to the relevant staffing regulations. It would not therefore be open to my Department to allow payment of incremental salary to any further teacher in that school.
