Vol. 358 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Dublin Unemployment.

564.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware of the chronic unemployment problem in Swords, County Dublin; and his proposals to tackle the problem.

I am aware of the unemployment situation in Swords. In relation to industrial development, for which I have responsibility, I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority, that they have grant-aided the establishment of a number of substantial projects in the Santry-Coolock area of Dublin, near to Swords. These include Bonaventure, System Industries, Pastronics, Timarina and Gould which between them employ nearly 700 people.

In addition the Fang Group from Hong Kong are establishing a major manufacturing plant in the Coolock industrial estate which is expected to create over 1,000 jobs in the first two years of operation. Other projects establishing in the Santry-Coolock area are Computer Products, Dahlstrom Manufacturing Company and Inverin Manufacturing.

The IDA have 33 acres of land available for industrial development in Swords and there is approximately 94,000 sq. ft. of factory space available on the Airways industrial estate in Santry which is being promoted for suitable projects.
