asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of his Department and each semi-state body for which he is responsible, whether the appointment of equality officers has been made; and, if not, when such appointments may be made.
Written Answers. - Appointment of Equality Officers.
580.
As appropriate arrangements (e.g. the conciliation and arbitration scheme) already exist for consideration of issues relating to equality between men and women in the Civil Service it is not considered necessary to have a specific officer appointed in my Department with responsibility for equality of opportunity.
In relation to semi-State bodies under my aegis, the responsibility for ensuring that the Government's policy on equality is being implemented has been assigned to either the secretary or the head of personnel management of the body concerned.
