Vol. 359 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Adviser Appointee.

403.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details regarding his special adviser appointed on 22 April 1985, including the name of the appointee, the qualifications and duties required by the post, the amount of remuneration to be paid and the arrangement regarding expenses.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the special adviser, Mr. Séamus Scally, whose appointment dates from 15 April 1985. The appointment is a temporary one and will terminate not later than the date on which the Government cease to hold office. The post is an excluded position under the Civil Service Commissioners Act, 1956 and qualifications are not prescribed. Mr. Scally is required to perform any duties which are assigned to him from time to time at my direction as appropriate to the position. His rate of remuneration is £21,364 per annum and he is paid travel and subsistence allowances, where appropriate, in respect of journeys undertaken on official business at the prevailing Civil Service rates.
