Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - River Drainage Schemes.

583.

asked the Minister for Finance if the scheme has been prepared for the drainage of the Finn-Lackey river.

A considerable amount of work has been undertaken on the preparation of a drainage scheme for the Finn-Lackey catchment.

584.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the drainage of the Owenmore and Arrow rivers in County Sligo, if it is proposed to have them included under the western package; and if any indication could be given as to the stage which this scheme has reached.

Work on the design of a drainage scheme for the Owenmore catchment, of which the Arrow river forms part, has been suspended since February 1983 following a Government decision to halt arterial drainage planning pending the outcome of a review of arterial drainage policy. The review, prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works, is under consideration, prior to the submission of proposals to the Government. In the circumstances, I cannot say when a scheme for the catchment might commence. The question of EC funding does not arise at this stage.
