Vol. 359 No. 6

Written Answers. - Air Pollution.

56.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the fact that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 and other residents in the area living in proximity to a Dublin coal distributor suffer from a severe health risk due to coal dust pollution, he will endeavour to have these premises relocated out of that area.

Specific cases of air pollution are a matter for the local authority (in this case Dublin Corporation) in which existing statutory powers to deal with air pollution are vested. I have no power to interfere in particular cases or to direct that any business should be relocated. I am advised that the company involved have installed a vacuum filtration system which, when it becomes operational, should achieve a significant improvement in air quality in the area. I understand that attempts are being made to have this system brought into operation as soon as possible.
