Vol. 359 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Hospital.

97.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of overcrowded conditions in ward 10B of St. Brendan's Hospital, Grangegorman; and if he will communicate with the health board involved to see whether such conditions could be improved as a matter of urgency.

I am aware of conditions in ward 10B. In recent years, considerable improvements have been effected in St. Brendan's Hospital. Although it is one of the newer structures in St. Brendan's, having been completed in 1946, unit 10 has benefitted under the scheme of minor capital grants since 1982. Funds to upgrade ward accommodation in the hospital will continue to be made available, at least until 1987.

In addition, as the Deputy is aware, plans are proceeding for the provision of new units off the St. Brendan's site, which will help in the reduction of patient numbers in St. Brendan's Hospital itself.
