Vol. 359 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Limerick Schools.

98.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in sanctioning the building of a new school and physiotherapy unit at St. Paul's Home, Dooradoyle, Limerick; if he is aware of the demonstrated need for such facilities as the St. Gabriel's school for physically handicapped children, Limerick, is not adequate for present-day needs; if in view of the escalating costs caused by further delay, he will indicate his approval for the early commencement of the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of schools for the physically disabled is a matter for the Department of Education. I am not therefore in a position to say when this particular school will go ahead. The associated physiotherapy service would, however, be the responsibility of the health services. Pending a decision by the Department of Education in regard to the school my Department is in consultation with the Mid-Western Health Board about the nature and scope of any para-medical services that may be required.
