I propose to take Questions Nos. 91 to 94 inclusive, together. The four persons named did not apply for the EC 1984-85 ewe premium before 15 March, the closing date for accepting application forms; and therefore under the relevant EC provisions cannot be considered for payment of premium.

Mr. Cowen

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a grant payable for the purchase of a milk cooler will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

The grant to which the Deputy refers is payable by my Department to the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society Ltd. Payment is made by instalments and funding is from the proceeds of the EC co-responsibility levy.

Before my Department can pay the final instalment it is obliged by Community law to carry out a detailed examination of the specific project concerned. In the present case this examination is now almost complete and if the results are satisfactory the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society will shortly receive the money necessary to pay the application in question.

96.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a 1983 heifer subsidy will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Clare.

The person named will be paid his 1983 calved heifer grants as soon as the batch which includes his payments is processed.

97.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will pay a farm modernisation scheme grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Following receipt of an application in June 1984 for grant aid for a cubicle house, silo and slurry tank an inspection was carried out which revealed that the cubicle house and silo had already been constructed, without the prior written approval of the farm development service. Accordingly the work did not qualify for grant aid. Approval for a slurry tank was issued on 19 November 1984 and a grant will be payable on satisfactory completion of the work.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will pay a farm modernisation scheme grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

As I recently announced, applications for grant aid under the farm modernisation scheme for farm buildings and fixed assets which were received from eligible farmers but not approved prior to suspension of part of the scheme in the budget of 9 February 1983 will now be processed.

To be eligible for payment the works involved must have been undertaken before the introduction of the revised farm modernisation scheme on 3 January 1984 and must have been completed in accordance with proper specifications. The local offices of the farm development service will now process the applications concerned, including the application from the person named, and over the coming months arrange for inspection of the works carried out.
