EC grants for fishing vessels are paid directly by the Commission to the successful applicant and such payment does not come within my competence as Minister for Fisheries and Forestry. The decision on such applications is entirely a matter for the Commission and, while I regret that the application in respect of the Jucqueline Anne was unsuccessful, there is no action I can usefully take in the matter, irrespective of whether or not similar grants have been paid for other similar vessels.
