Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - State and Semi-State Bodies Reports.

22.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will take steps to ensure that reports from State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department are made available to Oireachtas Members at the earliest opportunity rather than the present practice which means that Oireachtas Members may get such data many days after these reports have been publicly discussed and circulated; and if he will make the necessary representations to the bodies concerned.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the annual reports and accounts of the bodies in question. It is the practice of my Department to ensure that, in so far as reports of the bodies under its aegis are concerned (ESB, BGE, Bord na Móna, INPC and the Nuclear Energy Board), the presentation of such reports to the Oireachtas takes place, at the latest, simultaneously with their publication. The responsibility for presenting such reports to the Oireachtas lies with my Department, not with the bodies concerned. Accordingly, the question of making representations to the agencies or bodies concerned does not arise.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will take steps to ensure that reports from State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department are made available to Oireachtas Members at the earliest opportunity rather than the present practice which means that Oireachtas Members may get such data many days after these reports have been publicly discussed and circulated; and if he will have the necessary representations to the bodies concerned.

The only State or semi-State bodies under the aegis of the Department of Foreign Affairs are the Advisory Council on Development Co-operation (ACDC) and the Agency for Personal Service Overseas (APSO). In so far as both of these organisations are concerned, arrangements have been made for the supply to Members of the Oireachtas without delay of any reports they may publish.
