Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin County Council Staffing.

100.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that since the local elections adequate staffing has not been provided in Dublin County Council to serve the increased membership of the council and that as a result the staff are not co-operating with county councillors; and the steps he is taking to resolve this situation.

I understand from Dublin County Council that since the last local elections staff in the council are not co-operating with the elected councillors. The provision of staffing to discharge their functions is, in the first instance, a matter for the local authority concerned subject, as required, to my specific or general sanction, as appropriate. I am aware that Dublin County Council have had a series of discussions with the staff interests concerned in the matter and that these are continuing. In these circumstances it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment on the matter at this stage.
