Vol. 361 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - AnCO Training Courses.

13.

(Dublin North-West) asked the Minister for Labour the number of unemployed persons trained by AnCO during the first half of 1985.

The number of unemployed persons trained by AnCO in the first half of 1985 is 17,330.

Are there proposals for any further AnCO centres in the immediate future?

I am not aware of any such proposals.

Would the Minister know what percentage of those trained by AnCO subsequently find permanent work?

That is a separate question.

It is arising out of the number of unemployed.

This is the difficulty of Question Time. Just because AnCO is mentioned in the question every hare that could be raised is chased. We will never make Question Time what it should be until we depart from that.

There is no point in training people unless there is employment to meet their training——

The Deputy should have put down a question.

The Minister has given a figure of 17,330 who were trained by AnCO during the first half of 1985. From his experience of past performance how many of those can expect employment?

The question is of a statistical nature asking about the numbers trained. If the Deputy wanted to know more than that he should have put it into the question.

I am satisfied with the placement rate. If the Deputy puts down a question for written answer I will give him the full details.
