Vol. 361 No. 7

Written Answers. - Government Road Plan.

25.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether the Government road plan 1985 to 1987 is being implemented on time; and if he will give details of works already undertaken and the stage of completion achieved.

The new road plan, which I published last January, lists 54 major schemes to be commenced and/or completed in the period 1985 to 1987. So far, expenditure under the plan is on target while the planning of major schemes is substantially on target.

To date

—23 schemes are in progress.

—CPO/motorway orders have been confirmed in relation to six additional schemes.

—Public inquiries have been held in relation to 11 further schemes.

—Four public inquiries will be held within the next three months.

—One toll scheme has been made by a local authority.

Of the nine schemes scheduled to commence in 1985, seven have already started; a further scheme, the Newtownmountkennedy by-pass, will begin before the end of this year and the remaining scheme, the Blackrock by-pass, will start in the first half of next year. Expenditure for the period 1 January to 31 October 1985 totalled £128 million which is in line with the amount projected for the period at the beginning of the year. Further particulars relating to the various schemes are included in a statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.
