The question of the provision of additional technical support staff in Athlone RTC as in all other VEC colleges falls to be considered in the context of the Government's policy on the limitation of public service numbers. In this regard a request by County Westmeath VEC for authority to recruit additional technical support staff is under urgent examination. The creation of an additional post would be required before there could be any question of a person being appointed as requested by the Deputy.
