Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - Limerick Youth Service.

257.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that the Limerick youth service and the Southill community workshop are making deductions from the money of young people employed under the AnCO work experience programme for minor offences such as bad language and not wearing proper clothes; if he approves of such a policy; if he will take steps to ensure that any money so deducted will be returned to the young persons concerned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Community workshops are established and managed by community groups with financial assistance from AnCO and the Youth Employment Agency. AnCO monitors the quality of training provided and ensures that the funds provided are properly accounted for.

I have no function in the day to day running of community workshops which is a matter for the management committees. It would be inappropriate for me therefore to comment on the questions raised by the Deputy.
