Vol. 361 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Sligo Bridge

80.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the third bridge over the River Garavogue in Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The construction of a new bridge over the River Garavogue in Sligo is the subject of a bridge order application by Sligo Corporation under Part IV of the Local Government Act, 1946. A compulsory purchase order in respect of lands required for the approach roads to the bridge has also been submitted to me for confirmation. Since valid objections against confirmation of the CPO have been made to me, I must cause a public local inquiry to be held into the objections and, in accordance with established practice, I propose to hold the inquiry into the bridge order application at the same time.

At present, arrangements are being made for holding the inquiries. I expect them to take place next month. In view of my quasi-judicial functions relating to inquiries, the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment on the proposed works at this stage.
