Vol. 361 No. 9

Written Answers. - North Mayo Industrial Development.

62.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if, in view of the extremely high rate of unemployment in the north Mayo area, he will state the special measures he will take to establish industry in the area, with particular emphasis on Ballina town.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that it is actively promoting north Mayo including Ballina town as a suitable location for industrial investment, particularly large water-using industry. In addition, the IDA is endeavouring to find a suitable replacement industry for Travenol in Castlebar. The authority has a total of 93,150 sq. ft. of factory space comprising units ranging in size from 750 sq. ft. to 28,000 sq.ft. and 44 acres of land available for industry in the area.
