Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage.

30.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the serious flooding on the Dunkellin river basin as a result of inclement weather and the necessity to do major drainage work on this river; the priority rating that this river has for drainage purposes; when he expects that the river will be drained; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that flooding occurs in the Dunkellin river catchment which is No. 10 on the priority list of minor catchments. Policy on arterial drainage is under review. Pending the outcome of this review, the completion of the specialist studies in the area, which are ongoing, and the finalisation of any appraisal that might subsequently be undertaken of the economics of a scheme, I am unable to comment on the merits of drainage proposals for this catchment or to say when a scheme might be undertaken.
