In the fertiliser year ended 30 June 1985, 459 samples were taken by authorised officers and analysed in the State laboratory — 75 of the samples were found to be at variance with the statutory standards. In the case of each of the deficient samples an explanation was sought from the manufacturers. Discussions also took place with trade interests with a view to ensuring compliance with the statutory standards.
