asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the numbers employed in the service industry for the years 1981 to 1984 inclusive, and his Department's projections for employment in this sector of industry for 1986 and beyond.
Written Answers. - Service Industry Statistics.
I take it that the Deputy is referring to the International Services Programme operated by the Industrial Development Authority.
There are no official CSO figures available in respect of employment for the years since 1981 in International Service Industries grant-aided by the IDA. However, an annual employment survey carried out by the IDA for its own internal planning purposes shows that in the years in question the numbers employed in International Service Industries grant-aided by it were as follows:
January 1981 |
— |
1,692 |
January 1982 |
— |
1,866 |
January 1983 |
— |
1,978 |
January 1984 |
— |
2,175 |
January 1985 |
— |
2,341 |
The IDA aims to increase the numbers employed in the sector by about 5,000 in the years 1985-89.
