Vol. 362 No. 9

Written Answers. - Kerry Private Afforestation.

81.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of private applications received in his Department from Country Kerry for grant aid and assistance towards private planting; the number of officials available to service these applications and to advise the applicants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department operates two private planting grant schemes and the number of applications received from County Kerry under each of these schemes during the period from the introduction of the EC western package forestry development scheme in April 1981 to 30 November 1985 were as follows:

EC western package

172

Non-EC scheme

5

Officials of the Forest and Wildlife Service of my Department deal with such applications as part of their on-going duties and the number of officials available for such work in County Kerry is eight. In order to deal with the increased volume of applications for grants under the western package scheme as a result of the recent publicity campaign, additional staff have been assigned for such duties in my Department.
